What I'd like developed
The ability to either (a) export invoices directly from the payroll system into QuickBooks Online, or at minimum (b) download a CSV report that's already formatted to match QBO's own CSV import requirements, so it can be uploaded through QBO's Import Data tool without manual reformatting.
Why this is useful
Right now, the report builder generates a file that QBO's import tool rejects outright — it needs one column header per field, with each invoice's data sitting in its own cell, and the current export doesn't produce that.
Without this, every export has to be manually rebuilt by hand before it's usable, which is slow and introduces room for error — especially when it's happening across multiple clients.
QuickBooks Online is the standard accounting platform for the vast majority of our clients, and Intuit has made clear that desktop QuickBooks is being phased out. Not supporting Online at all is a significant and growing gap.
Who would benefit
Accounting and bookkeeping firms, like ours, that handle payroll and books for the same clients and need data to move cleanly between the two systems.
Any client on QuickBooks Online — which, again, is nearly all of them at this point.
Your own support team, who presumably field this same request from other firms.
How it should work
A CSV export option with one column header per field and one invoice's data per row — no merged fields, combined cells, or inconsistent formatting.
Columns that map to what QBO's import tool actually requires: Invoice Number, Customer, Invoice Date, Due Date, and Item Amount, at minimum.
Output as a .csv file, since that's the only format QBO's import accepts.
I have the specifics on how QuickBooks Online expects this CSV to be formatted and I'm happy to share them if your team wants to reach out — it's also documented in QuickBooks' own help resources online.
